Educator Certification

PLEASE REVIEW THE INFORMATION BELOW.  THIS ROUTE IS FOR INITIAL CERTIFICATION ONLY.  IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU MAY BE AN ELIGIBLE CANDIDATE THROUGH THIS ROUTE, PLEASE CONTACT MELINDA PENNY AT:  melinda.penny@education.ky.gov.

You be a candidate for this route if you:

• Have a minimum of a master's degree in the academic subject for which certification is sought;
• Have 5 (five) years of full-time teaching experience or its equivalent (90 semester credit hours) at an accredited institution of higher education in the academic subject for which certification is sought.
• Complete an application (CA-194) for College Faculty Route KECS.

• Send all official transcripts (bachelor and master degrees) to KDELICENSURE@education.ky.gov via National Clearinghouse or Parchment. Official transcripts may also be mailed to:

A candidate meeting these requirements receives a one-year Provisional certificate. The candidate must then complete one year of teaching experience and have a recommendation from the employing school district for issuance of the professional certificate (see 16 KAR 2:010 for a description of certificates).
