Developing CEO Goals and Objectives
The CEO Planning Process, Lesson 3. Section 3

The CEO planning process will enable you to begin identifying goals and developing goal statements for the three areas of:

The Visual Organizer or the CEO planning process will help you visualize the goals you develop for each of the three CEO areas and their connections to each other.

Required for Goal Development
As you develop goals for the three CEO areas concentrate on the following steps:

Three Areas/Goals

Concentrate on...

Instructional Content/Goal 1

Content discipline in which you and your school have previously shown a deficit.

Instructional Strategy/Goal 2

Teaching/learning strategy technique in which you and your school have previously shown a deficit.

Leadership Skills/

Goal 3

Leadership skill in which you have previously shown a deficit.

Goal Writing Requirements

Three major requirements to remember as you write your goals are:

  1. Continuing teacher growth over time that significantly impacts student learning
  2. Focusing Goals 1 (content) and 2 (strategy) on the academic curriculum documents and resources from:

3.  Focusing Goal 3 (leadership) on Kentucky Teacher Standards Advanced-Level Performances.  Other  resources as mentioned above may be used to guide the leadership project.

As you develop goals for your CEO Plan, remember:

  • Goal 1 is based on growth of instructional content knowledge.
  • Goal 2 is based on lesson implementation and instructional strategies.
  • Goal 3 is based on impacting the teaching profession.

Each of the three goals you develop must be connected and related to the documents listed above.

All goals must be realistic.

NOTE: If you are not yet comfortable with identifying and selecting instructional strategies (teaching/learning techniques, best practices), you may want to research best practices of teaching techniques.

For additional assistance in drafting goals, review the following Samples of Goal Statements.
