1.2 Reflection on Personal/Professional Goals/Assignment A

Continuing Education Option
Developing a CEO Vision
Reflection on Personal/Professional Goals Assignment A, Lesson 1. Section 2

Even though it may be hard to identify your own areas of needed growth, it may be even more difficult to perform in the area where you are less proficient. If you have a content phobia, a lack of artistic skills, or a real reluctance to step forward as a leader, you will identify areas in which you need improvement, thus acquiring skills to move your students forward. That is the point at which you will begin the CEO planning process.

When faced with a performance task such as creating and implementing an action research project, it is human nature to want to work in an area in which you are already comfortable. However, since CEO is asking you to grow professionally, you must choose an area of growth in which you can document improvement. The Self-Assessment Questionnaire allows you to take a reflective look at your strengths and growth needs.

The Self-Assessment Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and compare data so a determination of strengths and growth needs can be made. In the questionnaire, you will identify needs in instructional content, instructional strategies, and leadership skills.

 Instructional Content and Instructional Strategies

Self-reflection will guide your understanding of instructional content and instructional strategies.  You will be able to identify your strengths and growth needs based on the Kentucky Teacher Standards Advanced-Level Performances, as well as in the curricular disciplines.  By completing the Self-Assessment Questionnaire using the key provided, you will begin to develop a vision for your CEO Plan.

The rankings for Instructional Content and Instructional Strategies are defined as:

Rank

Description

3

Very knowledgeable and comfortable with the concepts, vocabulary, and skills.

2

Knowledgeable and comfortable with the concepts, vocabulary, and skills.

1

Limited or no knowledge and comfort with the concepts, vocabulary, and skills.

Leadership Skills
In order to receive a rank change through the CEO process, you must complete a leadership project. This project will be part of your completed CEO Plan and Portfolio based on the following:

  •  Job-Embedded Professional Development Plan
  •  Leadership Project Template
  •  Leadership Project Rubric
  •  Kentucky Teacher Standards Advanced-Level Performances
  •  Analyzed data that presents results of the leadership project

To identify strengths and growth areas in leadership, rank yourself at the appropriate proficiency level according to the Self-Assessment Questionnaire key.  You will then be able to establish your focus for the CEO Leadership Project.

The rankings for Leadership Skills are defined as:

Rank

Description

3

Proficient

2

Knowledgeable and somewhat proficient

1

Limited or no knowledge and skill in this area

Your task, once the Self-Assessment Questionnaire is completed, is to identify an area(s) in which you feel the least proficient. From this self-awareness you will begin to conceptualize ways to address acquisition of new knowledge and develop a vision for the entire CEO Plan.
